무지개는 있다

 

 

주문진에 처음 왔을 때, 하늘에 뜬 무지개를 봤다. 평소에는 거의 보지 못했던 무지개가 주문진에는 많이 떠 신기했다. 처음에는 근처에 산과 바다가 있어 무지개가 더 많이 뜨는 지형이라 생각했다. 무지개와 함께 노을도 많이 보였다. 힘든일이 있을 때 붉게 물든 하늘은 언제나 나를 따뜻하게 품어줬다. 비 온 뒤 하늘에 나타나는 무지개는 언제나 힘이 되어줬다. 도시에서는 쉽게 볼 수 없는 것들이 이곳에는 보여 좋았다. 태백산맥 너머로 지는 해는 언제봐도 멋졌고 따뜻했다.

 

그러던 어느 순간 무지개가 사라졌다. 노을도 보이지 않았다. 무언가 변하고 있었다. 지구 온난화로 기후가 변한 것일까, 처음 왔을 때는 없었던 새 건물들이 하늘을 가려서일까. 그렇게 고민하던 어느 날 문득 알게 되었다. 하늘을 보지 않으니 무지개도, 노을도 보이지 않았던 것이다. 장소는 변하지 않았는데 내가 변해버렸다는걸. 주문진에 처음 왔을 때는 모든 것이 새롭고 신기했는데, 1년 2년 시간이 지나니 주변이 익숙해지고 무뎌졌다. 나는 도시에서 살았던 것과 같이 다시 반복되는 하루, 쳐내기 바쁜 삶을 살고 있었다.

 

다시 무지개를 찾으러 떠나야 할 시간이 다가오고 있지 않나 싶다. 다만 이제는 무지개를 찾아 떠날 용기는 사라져버렸다. 그 때의 용기는 어디로 사라진걸까. 그래도 언젠가 다시 무지개를 찾아 떠날 수 있도록 종종 하늘을 올려다 봐야겠다.
